BLACK POWER In the session we got showed an image from the olympics in the 60's. The image shows three men standing on podiums - the two coloured men with their fists in the air, gloves on one of their hands and heads down. Whereas the other man (Australian) is stood normally facing forward - looking rather annoyed. What I'm getting from this image is that the Australian was defeated by one of the Americans and is not happy by it. In the 60's colourism was a massive problem and is being shown in the picture. However the meaning behind the photo is much different to what I originally thought. The Australian was actually supporting the two American and putting his middle finger up to colourism. As a result of him doing this he was frowned upon by the whole of his country and consequently not allowed to participate in the next olympics.
