Evaluation

Overall I am very pleased with how this project went, however I feel as if it didn't reach its full potential, this is due to many things not going how I envisioned. Nevertheless I am proud of the outcome of my first project and have learnt many thing along the way that will help me with future ones.

Firstly the positives.

So many things went well with this project, the photo shoots, research, filming etc. I was over the moon with how my photo shoots for my print based posters went. Although I had to change my idea due to other people not working / looking how I wanted them to the overall outcome was exactly what I wanted. In hindsight I should've just used Meghan for all of the posters originally as we work well together and she is so easy to photograph as she has that kind of face. The way the photographs came out I feel was very professional and quiet an achievement for me seen as it was the first time I had properly used a DSLR.

Another thing that I am very pleased with is the final outcome of my posters, I feel as if I stuck to the original plan well, especially with the font and the overall style of them. As I said earlier I had to change my model for them all however I still kept within my theme and just styled the new model in different outfits representing different personalities. One thing I would change about my beats posters is the all-white one. I have decided I am not a fan of the positioning of the model on the page and the positioning of the text, if I could re-do this poster I maybe would have chosen a different picture and placed it much differently, helping it to flow and not look all miss-matched. 

The scene in the lift for my video advertisement also went well, the actors I used were brilliant and didn’t need too many takes to get the perfect shots. The location was perfect, there was no mirror on the side of the lift I was filming from therefore I didn’t have to worry about a reflection meaning I was able to pace my camera in the exact same position I needed to for the shot. I took many different shot types of this scene as I wasn’t 100% sure on the one I wanted, by doing this it gave me flexibility with how I wanted it. Whereas if I would have just taken a couple of takes of the same shot type and I ended up not liking it there would have been nothing I could do about it. In the end I actually decided against the original shot type and ended up choosing a much closer one meaning the detail of the main focus’ face could been seen much better. This was a major part of my video that went really well and I was proud of.

Finally, a thing that helped me the most with this whole project was my research, without gathering all of the research I did and analysing different styles of adverts I would have really struggled with producing my own. Completing all of the research gave me inspiration and a rough idea of what I wanted to do, I watched lots and lots of adverts to see which ones I preferred etc. I feel as if my research on my blogger was also set out nicely, a massive thing for me is to make sure my notes etc are set out in a way I find easy to read and not boring and I most definitely achieved that. So although that isn’t an element of the actual production I wouldn’t have been able to even think about my production without it. My treatment in the ‘ideas’ page on my blogger also helped me out hugely, with being able to refer back to it throughout the assessment to keep refreshing my mind and to make sure I hadn’t missed anything out.

Now onto the things I would change if I could do this again.

I don’t think anyone is truly happy with something they have created, there will always be at least one thing they would want to change. For me its many things I would like to change but no matter how much I’m not happy with this I have to remember that it’s my first ever assignment and there are many more to come that I can improve on.

Realistically my overall vision for this project was very ambitious, in my head it seemed like a great idea and very simple however I didn’t have the skills nor the knowledge (or budget!) I needed in order to really pull it off but I did my best.

Another thing I would change is my research into editing. With this being my first project I wasn’t very knowledgeable with editing and the idea that I had in mind required a lot of it! I should have looked much more into editing and how I needed to edit my vision to see if it was possible really. Due to not having a clue how to edit the clips I had recorded the way I wanted them in Premier Pro I slightly changed my idea. This set me back and made me feel quite deflated as I knew the overall product wouldn’t be how I wanted it to. However I did get my head down and produced the best advert I possibly could in the time I had left.

Time management. This is not one of my fortes and never has been. If I could go back I would write out a proper schedule, that was realistic and I knew I could stick to. This would have really helped me from the beginning, it would’ve made me more focused and determined. Especially with the planning and research side of it, if there was a schedule in front of me and said what I had to complete for my research or idea that day it most likely would have got done. Instead I did bits here and there and then in the last week I panicked and produced something that I am proud if but that could have been much better with a little more time.

In conclusion I am very pleased with the pieces that I have produced but will be reading back on this for my next project and really taking n what I have reflected on, hopefully making it a lot smoother and a better outcome.
